30 minutes away for 20 years

We’ve lived 30 miles from DeSoto Bend National Wildlife Refuge for the past 20 years.  I’m embarrassed to say that last week was the first time I visited.  We went late in the day and the weather was miserable, so I’m looking forward to going back.  This little dude was eating at the feeder by the observatory windows.  Anybody know what kind of bird it is?

    1. Thanks for the info! Yes, it’s been fun, but there’s a lot of cropping in this photo. I like the 100-400 because it’s easy to hand hold, but it still isn’t easy to get close! I’m loud and clunky, so that’s probably part of it hee hee!

  1. Nice shot. Isn’t it always the way that we take for granted some of the great places we have close to home? My guess is that it won’t take you another 20 years to go back 🙂

  2. Beautiful shot. I just started getting involved in photography over the past 6 months. The next lens I get is going to be a longer range telephoto so I can take bird pics 🙂 you have inspired me!!
