back in business x 1.4

The 1.4 extender is working like a dream.  Because of it, I had to push the iso, (plus it was really cloudy)  and it caused more noise than I like, but I’m still happy with the results.

It started snowing this afternoon.  It’s supposed to snow most of the night.  I can’t wait to get out there tomorrow!

long suffering subject

I’m trying to learn Lightroom.  And, I’m starting to wonder if taking pictures of people might not be so bad.

Enter in the need for a subject.

The 15 year old knows I won’t stop bugging her until she puts down the phone, and pauses the Netflix, and does what her mother tells her to do.

When she was little, she used to just run away from me when I pulled the camera out.

Mentally, I’m sure she still is.

gettin’ up in your bazizness

I tried an extender today.  Turns out, I lose auto focus when I use the 2x extender, which would be fine if animals never paddled, or flew, or scampered, or galloped, or slithered, or even lumbered. (I’d love it if you left me more animal movement verbs in the comment section) I’m going to have to exchange it for the 1.4x.   It was fun getting this close, even if it was just for a day.

30 minutes away for 20 years

We’ve lived 30 miles from DeSoto Bend National Wildlife Refuge for the past 20 years.  I’m embarrassed to say that last week was the first time I visited.  We went late in the day and the weather was miserable, so I’m looking forward to going back.  This little dude was eating at the feeder by the observatory windows.  Anybody know what kind of bird it is?

so glad for gray hair

She was born and then immediately whisked away into the NICU.  I didn’t get to hold her for 5 days, and then only sporadically for the next 6.  She spent her first three years in and out of hospitals.  Our doctor kept telling us she’d live to give us gray hair one day, but it was hard to believe him at the time.

I’m so glad he was right.

We love you, dear, beautiful, steady, funny, tough, stylish, reserved, caring, hard working, responsible, creative Jenna Kate.  You are a precious gift to this world, but especially to us.

eyes like hawks

cagey.

skittish.

winged.

These birds made fools of Mr. GrayDays and me all day. We sure had fun though, chasing them around in Tim the Mini Cooper.
